How to use the Freight Science Splits tool

Introducing Freight Science™ Leg Split Workflow

The Leg Split Workflow allows Freight Science users to easily add a stop on an existing leg in the Freight Science application. Users can select various split locations for a leg via the map interface and compare the projected impact on out-of-route miles.

Known Limitations

This feature is only available for customers using TMW Suite as we write this data back to the source system. Write back logic is not set up for other systems but will be added soon.

This feature requires customers to have a set of location data with the flag is `terminal` set to true. Without this data set the map will not show any locations for users to select.

How can you access the split workflow?

Currently, you must have the Freight Science Planning feature enabled. The split action can be found in the Planning Grid, available in the main navigation under “Planning”.

Once on the Planning Grid, the “split” action is visible as a button on each leg.

What locations can I split a leg at?

Freight Science renders all locations from the TMS that are marked as a Terminal (or split location) as a pin on the map.

What if the location I want isn’t on the map?

Users can search for any location in the source TMS including customers and truck stops using the “Select a location” action on the left side of the screen.

How do I select a split location?

Simply click on the map pin or select a location from the search results to choose that location as the split point. Freight Science will then generate a route preview to simulate the impact this split location has on the overall mileage. You can select different split locations to compare the mileage impact (highlighted in blue).

How do I apply the split to this location?

Click the Split leg button to launch the split wizard. Users will need to record the appointment details for dropping the load at this location, as well as picking up the load for the newly created leg.

What if the leg I want to split has more than 2 stops?

Freight Science will attempt to logically split the leg between the stops adjacent to the split location. Users can override this break point by clicking the up and down arrows on the left-side panel. Additionally, the split wizard will confirm the split location in the load itinerary and allow users to update as needed.

Where do these route lines come from?

Freight Science leverages Azure Maps for geospatial routing. While accurate, these routes may not perfectly align to a preferred trucking route.
